| CONFLICT RESOLUTION: You Can Solve It! DVD
Set in an urban school, this program shows how unexpressed anger, hurt feelings, thoughtless words, name-calling and threatening can cause conflicts to erupt and escalate. With the help of mediators Tara and Steve, young teens are empowered to resolve their conflicts by avoiding "conflict starters" and applying "conflict solvers." Best friends, Tina and Mariah suddenly just can't seem to get along. In mediation, Tara shows them how reflective listening, expressing their feelings and problem solving can help them work through their conflict. They discover that Mariah is hurt because Tina isn't calling her anymore. Tina explains that her mother won't allow her to use the phone because of the costs. By clearing the air, they can put their friendship back on track. In art class, Jake thoughtlessly puts down Roberto's drawing. Infuriated, Roberto retaliates by destroying Jake's work. Steve points out that saying something without thinking of how the words might affect someone else can cause conflict. Jake and Roberto learn the importance of apologizing and accepting an apology in resolving conflicts. At lunch, Eric pushed Luca when she cut in front of him to get a container of milk. Later each of them is with a group of friends vying for use of the basketball court. After name-calling, threatening and insulting each other, Eric and Luca try to involve their friends in their personal conflict. Steve and Tara point out how compromising and using humor can defuse a major conflict. ***Includes Teacher's Guide | |||||||||
