MAY I HELP YOU? Skills You'll Need as a Feeding Assistant

This series consists of three programs:


Program I - GETTING STARTED (20 minutes)
Introduces feeding assistants and those in training to become feeding assistants to "must have" background information they need in order to work safely and effectively in a nursing facility. Coverage includes: What a feeding assistant does; Working with older adults; Residents' rights; Spotting and reporting changes; Preventing the spread of infection.


Program II - PROPER FEEDING TECHNIQUES (18 minutes)
Presents the specific job responsibilities of a feeding assistant and how to do the job the right way. Topics include: Preparing to serve the meal; Serving the meal; Residents who need cueing and other special help; Making mealtimes a pleasant, social experience for residents.


Program III - PROBLEM BEHAVIOR AND EMERGENCIES (14 minutes)
Introduces feeding assistants to skills they will need to be ready for those times when things don't go as planned, for example, when a resident begins to choke, a resident won't eat, a resident is agitated or abusive, a resident falls, or if there is a fire or other emergency in the facility.
