RECOGNIZING AND REPORTING CHILD ABUSE AND CHILD SEXUAL ABUSE (3 Programs) DVD

This series is designed so that "mandated reporters", including teachers, daycare workers and other professionals who work with children, understand how to recognize the signs of abuse and act upon their responsibility to report their suspicions. Special emphasis is given to recognizing the signs of child sexual abuse which is the most difficult type of abuse to detect. Other key highlights include how to document suspected abuse and how to properly handle a child's disclosure that they are a victim.

Program One: CHILD ABUSE IN OUR COMMUNITIES
Examines your responsibility as a mandated reporter while providing you with a method to report suspected abuse. Takes a close look at the different types of abuse and special emphasis is placed on recognizing the signs of Physical Abuse. 23 minutes

Program Two: RECOGNIZING THE SIGNS OF CHILD SEXUAL ABUSE
Describes why child sexual abuse often continues for years and identifies how perpetrators control their victims and their victims' families. Examines the emotional scars and other effects that sexual abuse has on children and explains what behaviors to look for in children that might indicate abuse. 24 minutes

Program Three: HANDLING DISCLOSURES AND REPORTING ABUSE
Discusses how to talk to a child who seems troubled and explains how to appropriately handle a disclosure. Examines the steps that you must take to document suspected abuse while reviewing how the authorities may conduct an investigation. Suggests ways to help victims of abuse recover from the emotional effects. 21 minutes
