EARTH SCIENCE FUNDAMENTALS (6 Programs)

These programs are designed to make science relevant in a child's everyday life. Peer hosts introduce live-action, concrete situations to help teach scientific concepts and principles. Colorful graphics, animation and detailed diagrams are used throughout the program to reinforce the learning process. These informative and fun-filled DVDs will enhance every elementary and middle school science curriculum.

The EARTH SCIENCE FUNDAMENTALS SERIES includes six 15-minute programs and activities to go along with each subject to provide the most comprehensive educational system about earth sciences.

ECOSYSTEMS AND BIOMES
The moment you step out the front door you are walking into a biome. Your own backyard is part of an ecosystem. Wildlife and the environment work together to make the world a harmonious place. The climate, animals, and vegetation vary in many different parts of the world which make that area a specific biome with its very own characteristics.

SEEDS AND PLANTS
Plants are all around us. People rely on plants to live. They make our world more beautiful, provide food and medicine and help us breathe. They make up our forests, woods, yards, our world. Understanding the relation between seeds and plants will help children appreciate the interrelatedness of our environment. All living things depend on each other in one way or another. The plant cycle is just one more continuous phenomena in our world.

After viewing the SEEDS AND PLANTS program and engaging in the activities provided, students will be able to:
*List various uses of plants
*Identify parts and functions of plants
*Define and apply predetermined vocabulary as it relates to plants
*Explain how the plant cycle works

WEATHER
Weather affects our lives in many ways. Often, we take how much we rely on knowing and understanding the weather for granted. All living things must be able to adapt to the weather conditions in their region in order to live successfully. We will be more prepared to understand just what a powerful force it really is by understanding the various weather phenomena.
This weather program highlights different forms of weather and introduces the concepts and reasons for various weather patterns. Examples and explanations are given throughout the program using real life situations relating to the cause of a specific weather pattern.

ROCKS AND MINERALS
Everything solid in nature began as a mineral. We rely on rocks and minerals in our daily lives and most of the time don't even know it. Developing an understanding for how integral rocks and minerals are to our daily lives will help children form a greater appreciation for the building blocks of our world.

HABITATS
Plant and animal life is unique to each area in the world because of the diversity among land regions. In this program viewers will learn about and come to value what each part of our world has to offer. Through studying the various habitats found on Earth students will develop an understanding and appreciation for the diversity that surrounds us. By doing this we can begin to teach people how to prevent further endangerment, or even extinction of certain species.
