NURSING ASSESSMENT OF THE POSTPARTUM PATIENT - CD

This interactive CD program is part of the NURSING ASSESSMENT OF THE NEW FAMILY Series. This series consists of three programs:

PHYSICAL ASSESSMENT OF THE NEWBORN
Demonstrates immediate assessment with emphasis on criteria that confirm the neonate is in stable condition. Illustrates how to perform a systematic detailed examination that includes vital signs, the head and neck, abdomen, extremities, and genitals. Focuses on how to prevent dangerous heat loss and how to recognize normal variations among newborns.

GESTATIONAL AGE ASSESSMENT OF THE NEWBORN
Demonstrates how to determine the gestational age of a newborn based on physical and neuromuscular findings. Illustrates how to compute the findings to distinguish those infants who are born at term from those who are preterm or postterm. Demonstrates how to correlate gestational age with the size of the infant and to identify those infants who are small, large, or appropriate in size for their gestational age.

NURSING ASSESSMENT OF THE POSTPARTUM PATIENT
Shows in step-by-step detail how to perform physical assessments of the new mother that include the fundus, bladder, lochia, and perineum. Emphasizes also how to evaluate the woman who gave birth by cesarean. Illustrates as well the expected behaviors of new parents and infants, and suggests appropriate nursing interventions.
