BUILDING BIG: Bridges, Domes, Skyscrapers, Dams and Tunnels (5 programs) DVD

Viewers get to explore LARGE structures and what it takes to build them in this new five-part series hosted by David Macaulay, the award-winning author and illustrator of THE WAY THINGS WORK and other books. Each one-hour program focuses on a type of construction integral to modern life: bridges, tunnels, dams, skyscrapers and domes. The series explores many of the unknown stories behind the construction of famous structures. It also looks at how engineers today are building bigger than ever before.

While just watching this series would be interesting to any age group, it also includes short vignettes featuring kids doing simple hands-on engineering activities. Teachers or parents can easily re-create these activities using the printed instructions that are included. Also included is a Teacher's Guide and a Classroom Activity Video for middle-school students which explores a key theme from the series. Kit includes 5-part boxed video set (60 minutes each), Teacher's Guide and a 45 minute Classroom Activity Video.
