This is a documentary about going to prison to gain one's freedom; is such a thing possible? The stories of three aboriginal offenders unfold within the walls of a federal penitentiary as they struggle with issues of mercy and healing within a man-made institution designed to deter and punish. A Mi'kmaq Elder, brings his wisdom into the prison and introduces members of the Native Brotherhood Association to their culture and traditions for the first time. What might have been different if they had been introduced to these ways BEFORE they went to jail? It gives a whole new meaning to the term "life sentence".
