SEVERE EARLY TRAUMA (2 Programs) DVD

Presents research findings on the interrelated and complex effects of childhood trauma, along with guidelines for therapy. Four survivors of severe early trauma add poignant perspectives on its concrete and pervasive impact on their lives, and on their efforts to cope with those effects, to heal, and to find meaning in life.

Part I: THE LONG-TERM EFFECTS draws on the growing body of research on the sequelae of developmental trauma to provide practical information on six symptom clusters: affect disregulation, dissociation, somatization, misperceptions of self and of the perpetrator, disturbed relationships, and distortions in systems of meaning. 55 minutes

Part II: THERAPY FOR ADULT SURVIVORS explores a range of clinical issues, including rage and self-injury, flashbacks and body memories, trust and sexuality, shame and self-blame. The program also discusses trauma groups, counter-transference, and therapeutic strategies. 50 minutes
