CITIZEN SHAME: Child Poverty

The United Nations has ranked Canada as one of the best places in the world to live. And yet a significant number of children live below the government's own declared poverty line. The only country in the developed world with a worse record for child poverty is the United States. This video examines some of the roots of this dilemma. Study after study shows that a poor child is likely to become a more costly adult. It addresses the problem of the devastation felt by families, who, through job loss, divorce, or illness, suddenly find themselves living below the poverty line. It's a cycle that once started can seem impossible to break. A variety of perspectives are voiced on the subject through expert interviews and in-depth discussion with families living on both sides of the poverty line.
