INTERPRETING ABGs SERIES (3 Programs) DVD

This series discusses the basics of arterial blood gas (ABG) interpretation and describes the components of the acid-base balance, listing their normal values and compensatory mechanisms for restoring homeostasis to patient with an imbalance. Two models are used for interpretation of acute, mixed, partially compensated, and fully compensated acid-base disturbances.

BASIC INTERPRETATION
This program begins by explaining the major components of an ABG, their relationship to the acid-base balance, and the compensatory mechanisms that take place to maintain normal blood pH. The most common acid-base disturbances are then discussed and illustrated using this method as well as how to interpret the values quickly and accurately using the H model.

ADVANCED INTERPRETATION
While Basic Interpretation discusses the H method, this program goes a step further and describes calculations to determine predicted blood pH, presence of a metabolic component to a respiratory acidosis or alkalosis, amount of circulating base or buffers, and base excess or deficit.

CLINICAL APPLICATIONS
This program is composed of six case studies in which the viewer must use critical thinking as well as the techniques described in the first two programs thinking and apply them to clinical scenarios. In each case, patient information is provided, including ABG results.
