Volume 1 - HOW TO COMMUNICATE EFFECTIVELY WITH SOMEONE WHO HAS HEARING LOSS
About 30% of people over 65 have hearing loss, which can affect self-image, relationships and communication. This program teaches about the importance of communication, the causes and symptoms of hearing loss, a typical audiologist evaluation and effective communication techniques in and outside the home. 28 minutes *CC

Volume 2 - HOW TO COMMUNICATE WITH SOMEONE WHO HAS APHASIA Aphasia is a language disorder that impairs a person's ability to speak or to understand what others are saying. Effective communication is an important key to improving the quality of life for patients with aphasia. This program defines aphasia and its effects on family members and the person with aphasia. Communication techniques developed by speech/language pathologists and others in the field are included. 24 minutes *CC

Volume 3 - CARING FOR SOMEONE WITH EARLY TO MID STAGE ALZHEIMER'S DISEASE
This program defines Alzheimer’s disease and its effects and teaches communication techniques that can bring a higher quality of life to the person who has Alzheimer’s and to the care provider. Topics include repetitive questions, doing chores, aggressive behavior, answering difficult questions and the use of language and other forms of communication. 27 minutes

Volume 4 - DEVELOPING CULTURAL COMPETENCE
Culturally competent health care includes a variety of cultural beliefs and customs rather than imposing one standard of behavior or belief upon everyone. Topics include personal space, eye contact, touch, gestures, verbal communication style, time orientation and beliefs about medicine, illness and health. Interviews with experts in the field provide further insight into the impact of culture on health care. Ideal for training home care and hospital staff. 40 minutes *CC

Volume 5 - CARING FOR SOMEONE WITH MID TO LATE STAGE ALZHEIMER'S DISEASE
This program focuses on the challenges and difficult topics that caregivers must address as the disease progresses. Topics include: changes that occur in mid to late stage, core principles in Alzheimer’s care, activities, tolerance levels, naps, repetitive calling out, sexuality and intimacy, pain management and incontinence and toileting.

Volume 6 - COMMUNICATION SKILLS
Communication is a process of creating shared understanding. This program describes the importance of positive communication and teaches effective methods for creating clear, respectful communication. Topics include: verbal and non-verbal communication, positive body language, active listening, asking open-ended questions, clarification, pacing, obstacles to communication, honoring your client's feelings and more. 15 minutes
