TEN MINUTE ASSESSMENT OF THE ADULT (4 Programs) DVD

Aimed at healthcare personnel to help in the development of skills and techniques required in making rapid assessment of patient health status; this series consists of four programs:

OUTPATIENT ASSESSMENT - Components of this screening assessment include: conducting a general survey, interviewing the patient, using the mnemonic PQRST to describe symptoms, taking vital signs, calculating Body Mass Index (BMI) and performing a head-to-toe physical exam. 23 minutes

PRE-PROCEDURAL ASSESSMENT - This assessment covers important pre-procedural nursing tasks, patient preparation, the patient interview, review of the chart, and a head-to-toe physical assessment. The principles and components of informed consent are also covered. 24 minutes

INPATIENT ASSESSMENT - The Inpatient Assessment centers on a change of shift report in a Medical-Surgical Unit. It includes a nurse-to-nurse verbal report, a chart review, definitions of American Hospital Association-approved patient condition descriptors, a patient interview, and a systems assessment review. 23 minutes

EMERGENCY ASSESSMENT - The Emergency Assessment begins in a public setting with an airway emergency, and ends in a hospital Emergency Department. It includes a rapid general survey, the ABCDE sequence in emergency assessment, explanation and use of the Glasgow Coma Scale, and how to gather an AMPLE history. 21 minutes
