NURSE - PATIENT- FAMILY RELATIONSHIPS

Nurses of critically ill pediatric patients often form long-term and intense relationships with patients and their families. While caring for vulnerable families, nurses and other health care professionals often struggle to establish safe, therapeutic relationships and define their advocacy roles. Professional boundaries are defined as the limits of the professional relationship that allow for a safe therapeutic connection between the professional's power and the client's vulnerability. This program is an in-depth, real-life story of one patient, his nurse and his family and offers tools and resources to examine therapeutic relationships and boundary issues through complex, challenging situations. The module includes discussion questions, take-home points, resources and other curricula.
