DIGNITY AND RESPECT: Showing Patients Cultural Sensitivity DVD
All clinical staff members are required to receive training to become sensitive to cultural diversity and its implications for the delivery of safe and quality healthcare to patients.
The learning objective of this program is to educate all hospital staff on the necessity of providing every patient with effective and respectful care in a manner that is compatible with each patient's beliefs and practices. This includes issues regarding culture, race gender, sexual orientation, functional ability and economic situation for good patient care.
Developed for general orientation, this program will:
*Define cultural competency and why it is important
*Teach the importance of understanding cultural variation
*Encourage the asking of questions for more complete patient understanding
*Stimulate staff to learn how patients display cultural expression
*Show how cultural competency can lead to better patient care
*Achieve compliance with The Joint Commission's Population-Served Standard
