TEEN FILES FLIPPED SERIES (11 Programs)

Discovery’s award-winning TEEN FILES series is renowned for hard-hitting, in-your-face presentations to which teens immediately relate, and the TEEN FILES FLIPPED series continues that brash, honest tradition. There are eleven 21-minute programs in the series also available separately.

1. BULLIES, LONERS, AND VIOLENCE
Teens Joey and Kristin are attractive and outgoing - and both are bullies. "Flipped" into attending a new school dressed in "nerd clothes", the two are teased mercilessly on the same day there’s been a school shooting in a nearby community. In an emotional after school vigil, students from Columbine and Santana high schools share their experiences - leading the group to a decision to treat others fairly and to do what they can to stop school violence.

2. DRUG USE AND ADDICTION
Self-absorbed teens Cory and Eva prefer the "high" life and use drugs to achieve it. Eva's goal in life is to have fun, while Cory's is to avoid his mother's nagging. When they are "flipped", Cory is emancipated from his mom and Eva's asked to host an MTV program. The teens subsequently become involved with heavy drug users who steal to support their habit. They suffer withdrawal and overdose themselves into the hospital. This, as well as additional revelations about HIV infection and drug-induced brain damage, causes the teens to swear off drug use and reconcile with their families.

3. RACISM
As this intense video begins, Chris and Michael openly express distrust and dislike for minorities. Chris gets to join some record promoters as they listen to a new band and meet rap superstar Coolio. Meanwhile, Michael is asked to be a mentor for Mike-Mike, an African-American boy. Along the way, Chris and Michael must confront their prejudices and make new choices. They are forced to re-evaluate their feelings, especially after each comes face to face with the violent consequences of hate.

4. REALITY OF DRUG USE
A group of teenage drug users are "flipped", each in a different way. Convicted of drug trafficking, Stephen is sent to a treatment facility. Kriss, who believes driving under the influence is an acceptable risk, is "paralyzed" in a car wreck. Carissa stays at a hostel for homeless teens, then "overdoses and dies". Crystal, the ringer of the group, has a real-life story: her brother Caleb did die of a drug overdose. The teens react strongly to their dramatized situations, vowing they don’t want to see any of this happen for real.

5.TOBACCO
Kyle is dependant on chewing tobacco, but hopes to become a professional baseball player, while Ashlee, a cigarette smoker, hopes to make it as an actress in Hollywood. Neither is concerned about their dangerous habit, thinking they are "invincible". Believing they won an opportunity to live out their fantasies, they instead discover the destructive realities of tobacco as they watch their lives go up in smoke.

6. TOLERANCE
Exploration of hate follows two typical American teenagers coming face-to-face with their own fears, insecurities, bigotry and hatred when they find themselves in circumstances beyond their control. This reality-based program will keep students riveted as they learn the value of communication, compassion and understanding.

7. DOING HARD TIME
Teenagers Jonathan and Tina are "Flipped" into a maximum security prison. Their experiences there hit home, and both teens resolve to change their ways.

8. SMOKING: TRUTH OR DARE?

9. THE TRUTH ABOUT DRINKING
Alcohol kills more than five times the number of people killed by cocaine, heroin, and every other illegal drug combined. Yet for today's teenagers, alcohol is the number one drug of choice.

10. THE TRUTH ABOUT DRUGS
By asking teens what they think about drugs and then having experts teach them the facts, host Leeza Gibbons takes us through an in-depth look at the dangers of drugs and their effects. A number of organizations help by bringing the realities of drug use and overdose to these teens and their families by showing them what it is like to live a drug nightmare.

11. SEXUAL RESPONSIBILITY
What are the far-reaching consequences of becoming a teen father? What does it feel like to be a teen facing death from AIDS? These are the issues two high school teens must face in a candid look at the consequences of risky sexual behavior. This program is a dose of reality that provides an excellent basis for thought and discussion concerning the hazards inherent in risky sexual behavior.
