REAL WORLD SCIENCE I (8 Programs) DVD

These eight programs (approximately 15 minutes each) are designed to make science relevant in a child's (Grades 3-5) every day life. Peer hosts introduce live-action, concrete situations to help teach scientific concepts and principles. Colorful graphics, animation & detailed diagrams are used throughout to reinforce the learning process. See also Volumes II and III of the series...#5110 and #5090.

All programs include a Teacher's Guide and Student Worksheets. The eight programs in the series are:

1) TRASH & THE ENVIRONMENT #1724 - This is a great intro to young viewers on the subject of garbage, recycling and conservation. It's also about the huge problem that they, as a society, will have to deal with in the very near future.

2) DINOSAURS #1728 - Kids love dinosaurs too! This is a fascinating use of 'animatronics' to see what life was like in the time of the dinosaurs and introduce viewers to a variety of the most common types.

3) HABITATS #1722 - Habitats are where plants and animals live...like the neighborhoods, cities, towns where humans live. But why do they live there and how do they get along with their fellow inhabitants?

4) THE SOLAR SYSTEM #1726 - Beyond the sun, the moon, the stars, the clouds, the sky they can see everyday...this video takes young viewers for a first taste of what's out there.

5) SIMPLE MACHINES #1727 - Simple machines have formed the foundations of civilizations. This video introduces the big six and shows viewers how they 'work'.

6) WEATHER & CLIMATE #1725 - Cold...hot...raining...windy...stormy! This video explains the reasons that weather happens the way it does in different parts of the world.

7) SEEDS & PLANTS #1721- An around the world tour of the plant kingdom shows the different life cycles, pollination, fertilization and germination techniques.

8) ROCKS & MINERALS #1723 - This video offers an introductory course in geology through visits to a quarry, a mine and a cave.
