YOUR CAREER SEARCH: Taking the First Step

This is a marvelous tool to get junior-senior high viewers constructively focused on the subject of future careers. The three essential questions they must ask themselves as they begin their search for a career are: Who am I? What am I good at? What qualities in a job are important to me? This program helps students find answers to these questions by examining their personality types, their abilities, and their preferences. Using self-assessment quizzes and other personal evaluations, students are set on the path to career success and satisfaction.

Based on Myers-Briggs personality typing, Part One helps students examine eight different personality types to see which one best describes them. Part Two uses brainstorming techniques to help teens uncover the abilities, skills, and strengths they may not even be aware they possess. Part Three gets them thinking about what values are important to them as they look towards a career, such as: independence, money, flex hours, security, gratification. Finally, students compile all this information about themselves and make determinations about the kinds of jobs they think would be a good match for them.
