TAUNTING, GOSSIPING, HAZING: It's Harassment DVD
By the time they finish high school most students have either been the subject or the instigator of taunts, gossip and even hazing or physical harassment. Each scenario in this documentary-style program reveals the effects of these behaviors on others as well as solutions that will help teens deal with these different types of harassment.
Taunts and Putdowns: Just because Chris is in the school play and hangs out with the theater crowd, Connor and his friends taunt him mercilessly about it. Chris reacts by feeling angry and at times avoiding classes when he knows that Connor will be there. Chris learns not to show Connor his reaction to the taunts and to use humor to defuse the situation.
Gossip and Rumors: Out of jealousy, Nina spreads rumors that Melissa is "easy." This results in Kyle canceling a date with her, other boys saying rude things to her, and lewd messages appearing on her cell phone and computer at home. In addition, she struggles with feelings of depression. Melissa learns that she can turn to an adult for help, change her e-mail account and confront Nina about spreading false rumors.
Hazing and Other Physical Harassment: Kyle is elated when he makes the football team, but becomes uncomfortable and even frightened when he learns that there is a hazing ceremony all new "scrubs" go through before the first game. Kyle seriously considers quitting. His older brother Tyler helps him learn that It's okay to tell the coach what is going on, even if he has to do it anonymously.
