SAFETY FIRST: Rules Have a Reason DVD

Using music and realistic scenarios, this program shows children the reasons behind the safety rules adults ask them to obey. It helps to make them aware of the need to respect those rules and the people whose job it is to enforce them.

Allison's mother insists she ride in the back seat with her seatbelt on. Allison pretends to put it on, and when they have an accident where Allison hurts her nose when she falls forward in the seat, her mother points out that the rules are there to keep you safe.

Jake is playing with his new dog Maggie in the yard. He is told to keep the gate closed and latched so Maggie won't wander away. Greg comes by and offers Jake a ride on his new scooter. In his excitement, Jake neglects to latch the gate and Maggie gets out. They eventually find Maggie and Jake learns that when you're responsible for the safety of a pet you have to follow the rules.

Marcy, the playground counselor, warns Jennifer not to hang upside down on the monkey bars because it's dangerous. Jennifer thinks that Marcy is just trying to ruin her fun and goes ahead anyway. She gets her foot stuck between the bars and bruises her ankle. Marcy points out that it's important to respect the rules and the people who try to enforce them.
