Whether it's facing a new challenge, setting a higher goal, or discovering who you really are, there are specific steps middle schoolers can take to help themselves develop a healthy self-concept.

Trying New Things: Natalie wants to try out for the chorus, but is afraid to go to the audition. She learns from Jason that if she uses positive self-talk, visualizes herself succeeding and comes to the audition prepared she has a really good shot at making the chorus.

Setting Higher Goals: Raul notices that his friend Jade gets really good grades while he only does average work. Jade helps Raul to set goals and make a plan to reach them by: asking questions in class, doing schoolwork every night, and going for extra help.

Find Your Interests, Find Your Self: Kim thinks that by wearing "cool" clothes and hanging at the mall, she will be happy. She discovers is that she is bored by those things, and finds greater satisfaction volunteering at the community center.
